TODAY IS AN “A" DAY


From the MS/HS Art Dept: Congratulations to the following students for having their drawings picked for the VIF Contest. Their art will be made into note cards and sold for VIF:

Congratulations to Valhalla Science Research senior Danielle Olenchak for placing 5th in Medical Sciences at the 18th Annual Westchester-Rockland Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (WR-JSHS) competition at John Jay High School. Danielle presented her research, titled Measuring the Left Atrial Appendage.

Attention All M.S. Students- Homework Helper this week today, Wednesday, February 12th and Thursday, February 13th from 2:30-3:20. Please see Ms. Franquelli if you have any questions.

Attention middle school students participating in the Science Fair: Need help modifying your question and hypothesis? Stop by Dr. Pinnow’s room in 227 on Friday 2:30-3:00pm to get help and re-submit your assignment. Additionally, poster boards should be available for pick-up beginning Thursday in room 227.

ATTENTION SENIORS: Sgt. Gilmore from the US Army will be here today, Wednesday, February 12th at 9:30 am. If you want to learn more about the US Army, please sign into Naviance and register for the visit. Come to the Guidance Office for the visit.

Attention all student debaters grades 8-12! The next meeting of the VMHS Debate Club will be today, Wednesday, Feb. 12th at 2:35 in room 120. Please check our Google Classroom to help select our next debate topic. Can't wait to see you there!

From Mr. O'Riley: An interest meeting for Boys Spring Track will be held today, Wednesday, February 12, at 2:35 pm in room 218. If you cannot make it, please see Coach O'Riley for the Sports You team page code.

From Ms LeGendre - The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Society would like to thank our administrators, staff, students, and community for attending the annual scholarship dinner in honor of Black History Month. This year's theme focused on the historical period of the "Harlem Renaissance. This period of time was an intellectual, social and artistic explosion centered in Harlem, & New York City, spanning in the 1920's.
The club members shared their knowledge and performed to honor this time period. A very special thanks to the VHS Jazz student performers.
Also:
There will be a special meeting tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 13th in room 111. The meeting will begin at 2:40 pm. We have invited guest that will be joining the meeting. Please make every effort to attend.

From the Junior Class: The junior class will be selling carnations to send to the special people in your lives! Next week, during lunch periods, write a message that we'll attach to a carnation and deliver during first period on Valentine's day. The cost is $2 per message.

From the Guidance Office: Any 10th grader interested in the BOCES Center for Career Services program for next year should attend the information session tomorrow, Thursday, February 13th during 3rd period in the Library. Students wishing to attend the information session must sign up with Ms. Bonifacio in the guidance office.

FROM VOX MAGAZINE: Calling all high school artists and authors! Submit your original artwork or writing for publication in Vox magazine, Valhalla High School's award-winning art and literary journal! Submission deadline is March 11, 2020. You can email submissions to VoxMagazineSubmissions@gmail.com; or submit your work directly to Ms. Saric or Mr. Cooper.

Current Scholarships available in guidance:
• The Cristin Ann Bambino scholarship is available to a special education student who is college bound. The goal of this scholarship is to reward a student who has worked through his or her special challenges to complete high school and gain acceptance into a college or university. Please see Mrs. Jacobsen to pick up the application. It is due in guidance no later than March 23rd.
• The Paul Jensen scholarship is available to a student who has excelled in design in his or her high school career. The goal of this scholarship is to reward a student who has shown interest and promise in design and who wishes to pursue this path in college. Please see Mrs. Jacobsen to pick up the application. It is due in guidance no later than March 23rd.
• The Joseph Goncalves Student Humanitarian scholarship is available to a student who demonstrates an involvement and work for a cause or organization that promotes social justice, equal opportunity, relief of human suffering or other aspiration generally understood to be within the meaning of humanitarian activity throughout their high school career. Diversity is encouraged. Please see Mrs. Jacobsen to pick up the application. It is due in guidance no later than March 23rd

• The PB&J scholarship awards students who have experienced challenges in their life that may not have allowed them to perform well academically but still have the drive to succeed. Please see Mrs. Jacobsen in guidance for the link to the application. The guidance deadline to apply is May 20th.
From Ms. Martino: The Helping Hands Club is sponsoring the following collections all year:
Box Tops – MS students should submit them to their Period 1 teacher. All others can drop them in the container in the front office or my mailbox.
Pull Tabs – Containers are located in the main office, teachers’ room, and both cafeterias.
Used eyeglasses/sunglasses – There is a box in the main office.

From the Junior Class: The junior class is holding a fundraiser at Esposito's restaurant every Wednesday evening from now until the end of the school year. The Valhalla Junior Class will receive 20% of profits made on Wednesday nights for the rest of the school year at the Valhalla branch of Esposito's Pizzeria. Inform the cashier/person on the phone that they are supporting the Valhalla High School Junior class

2020 Winter Student Art Exhibits:

KMA Young Artists Exhibit, Katonah, NY:
Congratulations to the following VHS Senior Students: Michael David, Gabe Donovan, Jenna Gonzalez, Josiah Han, Jennifer Jacobs, Sean Kelly, Misty Sky Lindholm, Rachel Ramos, Emily Rodriguez, and Nick Sullivan. Their artwork was selected to be exhibited in the KMA Senior Young Artist Exhibit at the Katonah Museum of Art. The Opening Reception will take place on Sunday, February 9, 3-5pm. The exhibit will run from February 9th-March 1, 2020.
